The image has a strong, characteristic lighting, which works good for his face. The off-center composition also works very nice. This does have a downside however, which is that his right hand is cropped in a weird way. I think it would be better to see of it, to make it more recognizable.

The DOF works very well. The focus on his eyes draw the attention, which is emphasized by the vessels you can see in them.

The combination of the shallow DOF and the position of the eyes make my eyes go to the top right corner of the image, while the DOF erases possible distracting details.

All in all it looks very good, keep up the work!

This is very intense. It's so uncomfortably close to his face, that it makes me want to look away and avoid his eyes. It's almost like I forget that it's a photograph instead of an actual man. I think you definately captured an essence.
