( p.s. i have a exposition at VAV Concordia Gallery 5 January)
Approach to photography: Questioning the modern world in which we are living and trying to break this individualism and the anonymity of the big city. By going into Non-lieux (no existing places) (subways, malls, and crowded streets at rush hours and by talking to people to take photos, I break the usual way this modern world works for a few instants. I make real these non-lieux by creating an event that the stranger will remember.
This is one of the many great portraits in *BenoitPaille's gallery. I like this one in particular, for many reasons.
The depth of field is incredible in this shot, which also makes the light in the photo very nice to look at. Usually moody tones like these make a photo look dull, but this couldn't be more of an opposite of dull, it fits perfectly.
The thing I like most about this picture and other pictures in this gallery, is that it's real. There's so much detail in it, and the emotion of this man just shines through. To me it seems like he's hurt in some way, and he's bitter. It makes me wonder about who this man is, and what's his story, and it's a gift to capture something like that in a photograph.
My faves of your "A Stranger" series.. I can't help but admit; they're the ones of elderly people. There is so much said in the wrinkles of a "life-experienced" individual. So much wisdom. Makes me wish I could sit down with them & they could tell me what they know.
I hope that when I grow old... that my wrinkles are beautiful.
