Lives in a schoolbus he converted into a camp, he's vegan, doesn't take drugs, doesn't smoke or drink, and is in great shape. One of the most brilliant man I have ever met. Grows his own vegetables in the bus. Goes to Mexico each year.... A very wise man that I visited repeatedly to philosophize about life. Comments

The first think I see are his eyes, then I move to the expression in his face and then I start to explore the experience/wisdom weathered into his physical person. The lines in his forehead, the texture to his skin, the suntan and melanin showing all over his body... Very interesting subject.
Emphasis is perfect IMO. I think the use of the shallow DOF covering only his face helps the viewer realize what this photo is all about. His surroundings make up who he is but they blend together behind him.
I love his expression. It's so soft and mellow. It makes me feel like this man really is at peace with himself and his surroundings. It makes me think he is full of patience and understanding and a care for creatures and the earth alike.
Technically, the post work is superb. Transparent. Great color, warm with soft, pleasing window (?) light. Great range of light and dark give it a contrast that grabs my eye immediately. I can definitely see the image was sharpened but they all need it. I am curious what lens and format you used to achieve this shot. Judging by the frame ratio, I'd guess 35mm with maybe a 35-50mm lens shot fairly wide open. The OOF area is a bit smudgy but not that noticeable. Honestly, I can't pick out anything that really bothers me. I can see everything I need/want to see and I can focus on the subject without any distractions.
Really, really, REALLY great image! I wish I had it in my own portfolio!
