The first word that comes to my head is simply "Wow!" Just simply "Wow!" Not many photographss make me say that. It took my breath away. The most striking aspect in this photograph is her eyes which is brought out more by her causal clothings, her 'messy' red hair, her freckles, her mascara and the subtle green tone in the background.
Originality is lower since there are many kind of portraits I see that is similar to this, but don't fret, for this is one of the best portrait photography I've seen! Absolutely, brilliantly, wonderfully taken!
The choice of the model is excellent - she is beautiful, a raw beauty! I usually don't like portrait photography here on deviantART since they seem too perfect, too airbrushed and so on. Her freckles is extraordinary and I love it that you made it come out, instead of hiding it. She look like someone I'd see in town.
To show how impacted I was by this photograph, this is the first time I've actually posted a critque and I thought I'd do that first on an artwork. To think I almost suffered from Stendhal syndrome!
An astoundingly powerful portrait! I really love the tones of this image, the soft muted green background adds to the poignancy of the portrait. I rated the image quite low on originality, purely because dA already has a lot of portraits with similar subjects, striking freckled girls with brilliant eyes - but by no means is that meant to undermine your take on the subject as this is an exceptional example. I love the honesty of this image - she is wearing casual clothes, her skin has not been Photoshopped to remove the freckles and the passport photo-like composition of the image all reflect your straightforward style as a photographer who does not try to exploit his subjects or conform to contemporary values of beauty.
