Overall very interesting and vivid piece. the model is outstandingly beautiful, and the art she displays is well coordinated, and her clothing really sets a tone.
the lighting is excellent, the vivid tones add to sharp contrast, and the right areas are lit up, such as mid face, eyes, the strong shoulder line stand out. Her pose is intriguing, lending some mystery on the shot, and it has an edgy feel, which attracts me to even speak on this. The photographer had great timing, and captured some drama to make this picture stand out. The background is very distracting. i do like the white sheets, and the pink one ties it together, but I feel that the rest of the background should have been erased, or a crop from the pink hanging item down, it really takes away from the focus of the pretty lady considering the vastness of the open space. Ideally I would like to see just her cropped out, and this would achieve a much higher mark in my eyes. Occam's razor makes the cut seem clean. Exactly. Overall 3.5, a cropped version would be instant 4.5. Very high quality commission.
Whatever was done in the camera or in post production results in an effect very similar to shooting with infrared film. There is not enough technical information to know what was done to the image. In any event it is particularly effective for this application because of the impact it delivers to the tattoo itself.
The stylist choices are very good for this tattoo as well; the top, the aqua/turquoise line setting off the dress, the turquoise and purple in the bracelet, the purple streaks in the hair and the azure/green background are all effective in terms of impressing the focus onto the tattoo with an "echo" effect. Much more subtle but critical to the success of the image is the purple cast to shadow of the chin that sets off the shoulder and defines the line of space for the "product." And quite obviously, the depth of field and gross blur in the background set-off the model.
The artist has posted a series of pictures from this shoot or commission and this is by far the best of the group by many degrees. The others missed where this one connects.
The final touch in this image is it's apparent story. Tattoos always suggest something a bit edgy and dangerous because no matter how beautiful they are it is a form of permanent alteration of the body. So this girl is placed in the kind of neighborhood where the laundry hangs on lines and people live in close quarters. A bit of La Dolce Vita, of Naples. If she swung around, who knows what we'd see!
