The vision is excellent introducing the model whilst losing focus on the subjects in the background.
The expression stand out beautifully and combined with the focus only being in the foreground, making it impossible to ignore. A good technique, with smooth imagery and soft lighting.
Whether or not it was intentional, the blue shirt combined with the blue background creates an easy contrast which once again, forces you to stare right into the model's eyes, creating an even more powerful feeling of the expression.
The only thing this photo lacks is originality, as there are plently of photos of excellent expression in many locations, but that's ok because this photo to me isn't about originality, it's about humanity and their emotions.

Wonderful exposure & subject, is that all natural lighting? The subways over here are all so dark and uncooperative for shooting.
